Mrs. Dash Review

I just wanted to take a minute to discuss the National Salt Reduction Initiative and New York ’s pledge to reduce salt intake by 20%. I wanted to make sure my readers keep Mrs. Dash in mind as a tip for low-salt living.   As I’m sure you know, too much sodium in your diet can increase blood pressure which can lead to stroke and heart disease.  This is in interest of February’s Heart Health Month.

Mrs. Dash Seasoning Blend is an all-natural blend of 14 natural herbs and spices that add a unique flavor to every dish, so you won’t ever miss the salt.  In addition to their line of Seasoning Blends which are both salt- and MSG- free they also have 6 salt-free marinades including Spicy Teriyaki and Southwestern Chipotle

Here are 10 tips for reducing sodium intake that might be of interest to my readers:

  1. Choose fresh, unprocessed or fresh, frozen foods
  2. Read food labels for sodium content
  3. Choose foods with less than 200mg of sodium per serving
  4. Consume pre-prepared foods that are “low in sodium” or “no added sodium”
  5. Limit processed foods such as canned or dried soups, canned vegetables, frozen dinners, “instant” foods and flavored rice/pasta packages
  6. Use less sodium at the table and in cooking
  7. Use no-sodium or low-sodium seasonings
  8. Flavor food with lemon juice, fresh garlic, spices, herbs and flavored vinegar
  9. Use only small amounts of condiments, like pickles, sauces, olives, etc.
  10. Ask for less salt or sodium to be added to your food when eating in restaurants

Below is a fact sheet with further details.  Also, I am working with the Nutrition Twins about the new National Salt Reduction Initiative and tips for low salt living.  Tammy Lakatos Shames and Lyssie Lakatos are well-known nutritionists and authors of, The Secret to Skinny; How Salt Makes You Fat and the 4-Week Plan to Drop A Size & Get Healthier with Simple Low Sodium Swaps.

I was excited to sample Mrs. Dash's new seasoning flavors including Extra Spicy, Fiesta Lime, Caribbean Citrus, and Tomato Basil Garlic!

I have tried Mrs. Dash in the past, and love the idea of a salt-free seasoning. We like our foods heavily seasoned in this house, and since Mrs. Dash is salt-free, we can still use seasoning, but be healthier!

So far I have tried the Fiesta Lime seasoning. I was eating some tuna and crackers for a snack yesterday and decided my snack needed a little pick me up. So I sprinkled the Fiesta Lime seasoning on my tuna, and it really jazzed it up! The Fiesta Lime seasoning has a zesty lime/citrus flavor that worked well with the fish.

I am excited to try the Extra Spicy and Tomato Basil Garlic seasonings. As a Texan, I love anything spicy. And as an Italian, I'm thinking the Tomato Basil Garlic seasoning could be my new BFFE! I'm also curious to try the Caribbean Citrus flavor as well, the label says it is good on fruit!

The Bottom Line: Pick up some Mrs. Dash seasonings and marinades today for healthier eating at every meal!

I am a huge Mrs Dash fan. I especially love the Garlic ones. I have not tried the tomato garlic one but I would love too. And extra spicy is up my alley too. Seems like we have the same tastebuds!! Let us know how they are!
