NaBloPoMo: Tasty Thursday

For NaBloPoMo Day 7 I got the idea from Shredded Cheddar blog. The idea is to post recipes inspired by the current book your reading. I deviated from this and am posting Twilight themed recipes. I'm not reading Twilight at the moment, but thats ok. Below are some dishes that Bella ate in Twilight. She has the mushroom ravioli on her first informal date with Edward in Port Angeles. Bella had the Garden Burger for dinner after her first day of school at Forks High at the local diner with her Dad. Then she has the Spinach Salad for dinner again at the diner with her Dad the evening before the big make out session with Edward in her room.

I'm not sure all these dishes are in the book but they are all in the movie. Enjoy!

Feel free to post your Tasty Thursday posts in the comment section below. And if you have any meme ideas leave the link in the comments too!

NaBloPoMo: On My Wishlist

For Day 3 of NaBloPoMo I drew inspiration from Lost In Books blog who got the idea from Book Chick City! The idea is to list books that you want to read, either new, old, or upcoming. I may deviate from this and add a movie that I want to see. Here goes...

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella by Stephenie Meyer
Coming June 5, 2010

From Amazon:

"Fans of The Twilight Saga will be enthralled by this riveting story of Bree Tanner, a character first introduced in Eclipse, and the darker side of the newborn vampire world she inhabits. In another irresistible combination of danger, mystery, and romance, Stephenie Meyer tells the devastating story of Bree and the newborn army as they prepare to close in on Bella Swan and the Cullens, following their encounter to its unforgettable conclusion."

I heard about this book last week and was so excited! Finally every Twilight fans wish is coming true... more Twilight! The book will be about 200 pages. Can't wait! You can get it on pre-order on Amazon.

Living Dead in Dallas: A Sookie Stackhouse Novel (True Blood TV Tie-In Edition) by Charlaine Harris
August 2009

From Amazon:

"When a vampire asks Sookie Stackhouse to use her telepathic skills to find another missing vampire, she agrees under one condition: the bloodsuckers must promise to let the humans go unharmed."
I just finished reading the first Sookie Stackhouse book, Dead Until Dark, and really want to read the next book, Living Dead in Dallas. I found the above book on Amazon and it has a True Blood tie-in. Pretty cool! I became a fan of True Blood after a friend suggested I watch it since she's a Twilight fan too. And of course I had to read the books!

The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Shadow Souls by L. J. Smith
Published March 16, 1010

From Amazon:

"On the run . . .
Elena Gilbert's love, the vampire Stefan Salvatore, has been captured and imprisoned by demonic spirits who are wreaking havoc in Fell's Church. While her friends Bonnie and Meredith explore the evil that has taken over their town, Elena goes in search of Stefan.
In order to find him, she entrusts her life to Stefan's brother, Damon Salvatore, the handsome but deadly vampire who wants Elena, body and soul. Along with her childhood friend Matt, they set out for the slums of the Dark Dimension, where Stefan is being held captive. It is rumored to be a world where vampires and demons roam free, but humans must live enslaved to their supernatural masters. . . .
Elena will stop at nothing to free Stefan. Yet with each passing day the tension between Elena and Damon grows, and she is faced with a terrible decision: Which brother does she really want?
Back in Fell's Church, Bonnie and Meredith have made some dire discoveries. They hastily try to follow Elena and warn her—only to be caught up in Elena's most dangerous adventure yet."

Ooh sounds good! I just started reading the book that comes before this book, called The Return: Nightfall. My interest in Vampire Diaries began when I heard about the show on CW. I DVR'd it and loved the show. The tv show and books are alot different though.
The first 4 books of The Vampire Diaries were published almost 20 years ago in the early 90's. All these years later in 2009 L. Jane Smith published the 5th book in the series, The Return: Nightfall. The Return: Shadow Souls was just published last month. And the 7th and I'm guessing final book in the series will be published in March 2011. If you haven't checked out this series of books, I highly suggest it. This is one of the best Young Adult line of Vampire books I've read.

And the last item on my list isn't a book but I just had to add it!

Twilight in Forks
Released March 20, 2010

From Amazon:

"Twilight in Forks is the definitive DVD documenting the town of Forks made famous by the Twilight books and movies.

Since the Twilight movies weren't filmed in the real Forks, this is your opportunity to see the town that Stephenie Meyer based her epic teen romance books on. Are there truly vampires and werewolves there? Hear from the real people living their lives in the town fans know and love, including the Chief of Police, the Forks Outfitters employee who gets mistaken for Bella, and the vampire transplant who plays the real-life role of Alice. Visit Forks High School, hear self-described Jacob s grandfather tell the legend of how the Quileutes descended from wolves, and see many more of the people and places that make Forks and La Push the perfect setting for the Twilight Saga."

I saw this DVD at the grocery store and must have it! It sounds really interesting. I also saw a trailer for it and it looked good!

Yes I know its a bit of Vampire overload but hey I love vampires! Let me know what books or movies or anything special that may be on your wishlist.

Don't forget to check out Lost In Books and you can link your wishlists at Book Chick City

NaBloPoMo: Shelf Share Friday

I just joined the Ning group NaBloPoMo, or National Blog Posting Month. The challenge is to post on your blog every day for a month. I thought this would be a good way for me to get more into personal blogging, something I've wanted to do but did't really know where to start. The badge for this network is below.

I got the idea for my first NaBloPoMo post from a book blog called Bippity Boppity Book which I found on another Ning network I am a member of, Book Blogs. The blog post theme is 'Shelf Share Thursday' (even though I'm doing it on Friday, thats ok!) The point is to share 3 books on your bookshelf according to the week's theme. The blogger at Bippity Boppity Book is using the letter 'E' for her theme, so I will too. I will share 3 books that start with the letter E! Here goes...

Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer

From Amazon:

"The legions of readers who are hooked on the romantic struggles of Bella and the vampire Edward will ecstatically devour this third installment of the story begun in Twilight, but it's unlikely to win over any newcomers. Jake, the werewolf met in New Moon, pursues Bella with renewed vigilance. However, when repercussions from an episode in Twilight place Bella in the mortal danger that series fans have come to expect, Jake and Edward forge an uneasy alliance. The plot patterns have begun to show here, but Meyer's other strengths remain intact. The supernatural elements accentuate the ordinary human dramas of growing up. Jake and Edward's competition for Bella feels particularly authentic, especially in their apparent desire to best each other as much as to win Bella. Once again the author presents teenage love as an almost inhuman force: "[He] would have been my soul mate still," says Bella, "if his claim had not been overshadowed by something stronger, something so strong that it could not exist in a rational world." According to Meyer, the fourth book should tie up at least the Edward story, if not the whole shebang. Ages 12-up."

As a major Twilight fan, this book was a given! Eclipse is my favorite book in the Twilight series. I read all 4 books from last November through this January and loved them. As I read the books I really liked New Moon but after reading all the books and reflecting on them, Eclipse is my favorite. Many of the individual chapters are little gems of stories in their own right. So much happens in this book and there are so many memorable scenes. The tent scene with Bella, Edward and Jacob, the campfire scene where Bella hears the stories from the Quileute elders, the team up between the wolves and vampires and so much more. Now I want to read it again! I can't wait to see the movie this summer and see all my favorite scenes acted out. If you haven't read the Twilight series or don't think its for you, give it a second chance. Its easy reading but at the same time keeps you wanting more. Reading the Twilight series actually got me reading again, after not having read much since childhood.

Elvis Presley: Unseen Archives

From Amazon:

"Charts the life and achievements of the boy from Tupelo, Mississippi, from his first taste of fame in the early 1950's to his untimely death in 1977. Over 400 fabulous photographs document the important events in his life and career; his early concerts, the movies, his time in the army, his marriage to Priscilla and the birth of his daughter Lisa Marie, the resurgence of his career in the 1970s with the Las Vegas shows, and the gradual decline in his health. The photographs also show how Elvis lives on today, in the hearts and minds of his legions of fans. The pictures are accompanied by informative captions, adding context and depth to his amazing story, and an appendix of facts and figures sets out his remarkable achievements in the music industry."

You may not know but we are actually big Elvis fans in this house! This book is my husbands. I wasn't a huge Elvis fan growing up but my husband has an affinity for all things Elvis... artwork, lamps, collectible Pez dispensers... So I caught the bug! This book is an archive of rare and unseen photographs throughout the life of Elvis. There aren't any articles really, just tons of interesting Elvis eye candy and lots of informational captions. A great addition to any Elvis fans collection!

Thanks again to Bippity Boppity Book for the inspiration! So what 'E' books are on your bookshelf? Or feel free to share any interesting books you've been reading.

Thanks for joining me for my first NaBloPoMo post, see you again tomorrow!

New Moon Movie Review!

*Spoiler Alert! If you don't want all the juicy details then don't read on!*

Last night I went to see New Moon! By myself. Yes I am a total dork. Loser maybe? I'll settle on dork. And it was divine!
The movie starts off, and its Bella's birthday. The Cullens throw a party for her. As she is opening one of her presents, she gets a paper cut and Jasper tries to attack her. The next day Edward isnt at school and meets her later that day and asks her to take a walk with him. When they get into the forest he breaks up with her and leaves. He does it because he loves her and wants to protect her from harm, but doesnt tell her this.
Then Edward is gone and Bella is in a lot of emotional pain. She screams in her sleep. She becomes an adrenaline junkie when she realises she can see visions of Edward when she is in danger. During this time she spends alot of time with Jacob Black to take her mind off Edward. Soon after, Jacob finds out he is a werewolf and ends his friendship with Bella because he also believes he will put her in danger. Yet soon after that Bella jumps off a cliff to get a vision of Edward, but ends up almost drowning. Jacob saves her and they are friends again.
When Bella gets home Alice is there. She had seen a vision of Bella drowning and thought she was dead. Edward soon thinks that Bella is dead and goes to the Voltori in Italy so he can end his life.
Bella and Alice flee to Italy to save Edward from revealing himself. Bella makes it just in time and saves him from revealing himself. They then meet with the Voltori and the Voltori want to kill Bella and beat Edward up almost to death. Bella agrees to become a vampire and so they spare her.
After that, Bella and Edward are back together and at the very end of the movie... he asks her to marry her! Then it ends!
I absolutely loved this movie, there are some things about Twilight I liked a bit better, I think the cinematography in Twilight was a bit better and I liked the use of the Bella's Lullaby song throughout Twilight. I also think Twilight was a bit more romantic, I liked the music better. But I dont think we could have gotten the effect of the wolves with Catherine Hardwicke at the helm of New Moon so its a bit of a toss up. I wouldn't say that I liked one more that the other, since they are 2 different parts of the story. Both were excellent!
I could watch or read Twilight forever. I am always wanting more. I wish I could climb right into the book and be in Forks with Edward and Bella. Its almost unhealthy. God bless Stephenie Meyer.
