Launch of jewelry line to benefit the oceans

The ROCKNROLA Jewelry line was designed by filmmaker and oceans advocate Susan Cohn Rockefeller. She took designs from the oceans, the forests and even the garden to create this line of jewelry that she hopes will inspire people to wake up and do something about the world around them.

More information on the event is in the media alert below, but to kick off the launch of her line, 100-percent of the proceeds from the New York City event will be donated to Oceana. We will also be featuring this jewelry on the Shop Oceana section of our website where all proceeds again will go to Oceana. The store will go live soon, but it will be found here: http://www.oceana.org/rocknrola.

Get ready to ROCKNROLA! A chic and edgy new post-recession brand of jewelry hits Madison Avenue in NYC on Tuesday, February 2.  ROCKNROLA, and its six initial lines, is sure to become the buzz of socialites, celebs and the everyday woman.

From Susan Cohn Rockefeller and Carola Mack, ROCKNROLA designs combine downtown cred and uptown swank with a social conscience.

The launch will be held on February 2 from 5:30 to 9:00 PM at BUCK HOUSE ( 1318 Madison Avenue at 93rd Street ) the eclectic gallery owned by artist and designer Deborah Buck.  And, 100% of the proceeds from the evening will benefit Oceana, the largest international organization focused solely on ocean conservation.

"The vision behind the line was to design pieces as versatile as the little black dress; something chic and always in fashion that makes a simple but powerful statement to 'wake up' and do something about the world we live in," said the brand's designer Susan Cohn Rockefeller an environmentalist, filmmaker and author whose latest documentary film Making the Crooked Straight will debut on HBO in April.  "ROCKNROLA speaks to all age groups in the post-recession reality through a mix of new, old, edgy and classic jewelry."

"This will be an opportunity to celebrate our love for the planet and the launch of the ROCKNROLA jewelry line with a special sale in honor of Valentine’s Day," said Carola Mack, creator and former manager of Au Bar and Carola's bars in Manhattan and fundraiser for Alzheimer's research.  "The jewelry is gorgeous and radical; a true conversation starter."

Susan Cohn Rockefeller, who produced the internationally-acclaimed documentary A Sea Change, is the chairwoman for Oceana's Ocean Council.  Ms. Buck is also a member of the Ocean Council.

"As an environmental activist I found myself thinking: why can't people Wake Up, Stop Idling, and Kick Some Ass?" said Susan Cohn Rockefeller.  "And we've carried these edgy messages, and other bold messages, throughout our lines."

Another part of the new jewelry brand draws from the calming wisdom of religious texts and universal spiritual truths.

Each piece of jewelry reflects a deep commitment to nature and the creativity that it inspires.  All materials used in the jewelry are sustainable and sourced through an environmental lens.  And, all pieces are made in the USA .

On their website, the ROCKNROLA partners summarize their brand's message: "In today’s ever faster moving world, we all need a reminder to relax and turn our focus to what really matters: love, unity, nature and peace.  With this in mind, Rocknrola offers six lines of jewelry that help us reset our life-pulse to a pace more in tune with nature."

ABOUT THE ROCKNROLA LINES
In today’s ever-faster world, we need reminders to relax and turn our focus to what really matters: love, unity, nature and peace.  With this in mind, Rocknrola created six lines of jewelry that help us reset our life-pulse to a pace more in tune with nature.  Designs are drawn from our oceans, our forests and our gardens, right down to the pollinators—the bees and the butterflies—that keep our earth lush and bountiful.  But these pieces aren’t just beautiful, they also encourage us to: Wake up! Enjoy life! Celebrate one another! Cherish yourself! And work hard to nurture our planet!

• Rocknrola: Where Uptown chic meets Downtown cred.
• Oceana: Celebrate the source of life.
• Unity: Because we’re all in this together.
• Stress Less: Life can be tricky. Stress Less can make it easier.
• Garden: Nurture your life. Nurture the world. Let beautiful dreams blossom.
• Love: It’s what makes the world go round. Start now!

DESIGNER STATEMENT ON ROCKNROLA LINE -- SUSAN COHN ROCKEFELLER
I first envisioned ROCKNROLA as the little black dress of jewelry. chic, versatile, always in fashion. Before I envisioned it though, I learned a lot about the enormity of the environmental challenges facing us at the moment. I recently co-produced the documentary A Sea Change about the perils of ocean acidification due to global warming. It was a wake up call. I then moved on to Chairwoman of Oceana’s Ocean Council where I received daily updates on the state of our oceans. This was a call to action. I found myself thinking: why can’t people Wake Up, Stop Idling, Kick Some Ass?

I decided to make this jewelry as a personal antidote to the global malaise that was weighing me down. I figured why not wear my frustrations in an artful, gorgeous, classy way that would grab people’s attention the way my daily updates were grabbing mine. On a whim, I took a classic strand of uptown pearls and transformed it into downtown cred by adding a sterling silver message tag that shared my sentiments. And then another, and another. A charm necklace!

I test-marketed a few on friends and family. They were stopped so many times, they asked me if they could carry business cards. Apparently, other folks were being weighed down as well. This led to new tags. Some playful, some inspirational, some hopeful, all meant to motivate and awaken.
